The festival to celebrate the artichokes is held around the 20th January or so. There are tastings of various popular dishes that use artichokes, plus in the restaurants, there are a variety of special menus available to celebrate these Gastronomic Days of the Artichoke.
Every year, in January, as part of the now-traditional Artichoke Festival, the town holds a Gastronomic Fair. At this social event, the restaurants of Benicarló and the surrounding county delight Benicarló residents and visitors alike with numerous dishes made from the stellar product of Benicarló’s crop fields: the Artichoke.

As well as the Gastronomic Fair, the town also holds a mass artichoke torrada (barbecue), a horse-drawn wagon competition, a sailing regatta, etc.

During the weeks following this festival a series of Gastronomic Artichoke Days take place during which the town’s restaurants offer their customers delicious, creative dishes based on the tasty artichoke. Also, since 2008, the town’s bars and café’s have been organizing the Jornades del Pinxo (Tapas Days) when people can sample artichoke-based creations at affordable prices.
